Make a Career Out of Better Decisions

Frequently Asked Questions About Our UK Programmes

All you need to know about our programmes, process and more

Please see our individual programme pages for specific application deadlines. If you do miss the deadline, we encourage you to keep an eye on our Early Careers website for updates as we may re-open for certain streams or locations or add new roles. Our roles are highly competitive and there are several stages of the recruitment process to be completed prior to assessment centres, therefore we do encourage candidates to complete applications as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

To be considered for one of our Graduate, Summer Internship or Industrial Placements, you must be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:1. Each stream requires different disciplines and skill sets, please review the specific requirements on each stream before applying.

For our Apprenticeships, each stream will require a certain number of UCAS points along with 5 GCSE’s graded 9-4 (A*-C). Please review the specific requirements on each stream before applying.

We are looking for qualities that will enable you to work effectively in one of our teams. We look for many different skills ranging from creativity, logical thinking, communication skills, numerical, motivation and client focus.

We welcome re-applications from unsuccessful candidates. We recommend 12 months between applications to allow you time to demonstrate that you have taken feedback onboard and worked on the advice provided. This will give you a better opportunity when being assessed a second time.

The salaries for our Graduates, Interns and Apprentices are competitive and in line with the market rates. The Graduates and Apprentices will also receive a comprehensive pension and flexible benefits package as a permanent Aon employee and 25 days paid holiday per annum.

  • Graduate Assessment Centres will take place from November/December for our Graduate Programmes.
  • Summer Internship and Industrial Placement Assessment Centres will take place from November/December for our Internship and IP Programmes.
  • Apprentice Assessment Centres will take place from February.

Our assessment centres will be held on a rolling basis until we have filled all roles. We select candidates for assessment centre based on several criteria; location preference, scores and performance throughout all stages of the recruitment process so far and in some cases, availability for any early starting roles. Each of our assessment centres is run based on programme and location, therefore please keep in mind that not all assessment centres are applicable to all candidates, and therefore we will need to be organising one specific for your application before formally inviting you.

This process can take some time but please be assured, we will contact you regardless of the outcome and will let you know that we are still considering your application for the shortlist.

The content and structure of the day will vary depending on the position and stream that you are applying for. On the day we'll put you to the test through a range of group and individual exercises as well as giving you the opportunity to meet some of our recent intakes and colleagues from the business to answer all your questions. Our assessment centres are a two way street; yes we are looking to test your skill set and knowledge in relation to the role, but it is also an opportunity to learn about Aon and our programmes to decide if this is right for you.

Our assessment centres will be held in-person at an Aon office.

  • Summer Internship roles will be starting in mid-late June.
  • Graduate and Industrial Placement roles will be starting at the end of August/early September.
  • Apprentices will be starting at the end of September.

Aon recruit for entry level roles across the UK regularly and these can be great opportunities to start working in the industry.

As these roles are not part of our formal launch programme the training and development opportunities will vary to those on our Graduate and Apprenticeship programmes, however Aon prides itself on being a company that supports the growth and development of employees at all levels and in all different sectors.

Further details about these roles can be found on our careers page www.aon.co.uk/careers

Aon is a global company with 60,000+ professionals working in more than 500 offices in more than 120 countries, which means the opportunities are endless. You can apply for a maximum of 2 different streams or programmes, as we have such a wide variety of options with very different career paths. Therefore, it's important to be clear about your long term motivation. If you do apply for more than one, please ensure you tailor your application answers to each specific stream or programme and be prepared to complete the recruitment process for each individual application. If you submit more than 2 applications, we will contact you to ask you to confirm which 2 you’d like to continue with and withdraw all other applications.

If you have a disability, a learning difficulty e.g. dyslexia, a medical/health condition or other need for an adjustment to our processes then please contact us so we can support you with providing adjustments to the stages of our recruitment process. Our Graduates are on permanent contracts from day one, so applicants for this programme must be eligible to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future; or you have pre-settled or settled status from the EU Settlement Scheme – or if you have applied and you're waiting for a decision.

If you have started a degree and not completed it, you are able to apply for an Apprenticeship. If you have completed an undergraduate degree, you can apply for our Summer Internship or Graduate Programmes.

Aon’s Apprenticeship programme is designed for candidates who have not completed University education (i.e. full study and received a degree result).

No. You will only be required to take the online tests once and the results will be used for all other applications you submit. You will be sent an invitation e-mail to complete the tests for the second application however, once you click on the link, the results from your previous tests will be sent over to the second application and the benchmarks for that particular stream will be applied.

At Aon, it is important that we meet deadlines for our clients and colleagues, therefore we ask that candidates only request extensions in exceptional circumstances or where reasonable adjustments to our process to accommodate any disabilities are needed. Delays in submissions will delay the review of your application at each stage. If you only require an extra day or two, or you find the invitation has gone into your junk mail, there’s no need to request an extension. Please just refer back to the original request to complete the online assessment and if the link is still live, please log in and complete it ASAP.

If you need a reminder of your log-in details or experience any technical issues please contact [email protected]. As soon as the technical issue has been resolved by the support team, please complete the assessment or video interview ASAP. There will be no need for you to request an extension if the issue caused a delay and pushed you over the deadline.
