512 – Bug Bounties and Ethical Hacking: Navigating the Complex Global Landscape
Companies across the globe are engaging with ethical hackers through bug bounty programs and other mechanisms to help root out security flaws. While ethical hacking can be a great way for a company to crowdsource its security program, engagement with ethical hackers through bug bounties and otherwise requires careful navigation of difficult strategic and legal issues. Can these hackers be trusted? Should they be paid? If so, when? The landscape is particularly difficult for global companies, as different nations’ laws make ethical hacking and bug bounties more or less risky for companies and the hackers. Panel faculty will include a privacy and security attorney and a cybersecurity consultant who has advised global companies on engaging with ethical (and less-than-ethical) hackers.
