Pension Trustee Dinner - working with in house investment teams
This invitation only dinner was part of our series of dinners aimed at pension funds that employ In-House investment teams. Attendees represented well over £100bn in UK pension fund assets and after a short presentation by Mike Rogers (Investment Partner) we discussed the benefits and challenges of the in-house investment model.
The discussion covered a wide range of topics including:
- Alignment of investment and sponsor culture; remuneration structure
- Key person risk and succession planning; impact of change in investment personnel on investment strategy and approach
- Measurement and the role of external advisors in critiquing and challenging strategy and implementation approaches
- Management of change as a fund matures and as it de-risks
- Pros and cons of seeking FCA authorisation for an in-house team
- Striking the right balance between in-house stock and security management and outsourcing
