AFP Aon Fire Protection

 

AFP Aon Fire Protection has been established to provide Sprinkler Certification Services as required by NZS4541 to verify that Sprinkler Systems comply with New Zealand Standards.

AFP Aon Fire Protection is an Accredited Inspection Body for the purposes of Design Verification and Inspection of Sprinkler Systems to NZS4541 and NZS4541, and for Sprinkler Systems modified by NZ Building Code Compliance Document C/AS1

AFP Aon Fire Protection is headed by Chris Mak, a well known Fire Protection Engineer, with over 20 years experience in fire protection engineering and management positions.

Chris was until recently the New Zealand Engineering Manager for New Zealand's largest fire protection contracting and service company. He is heavily involved in enhancing and promoting the development of the fire protection industry, which includes chairing the committees revising New Zealand's sprinkler and hydrant Standards. He also sits on the Fire Protection Association (NZ)'s Executive Committee, previous to Department of Building and Housing

Sprinkler System Reliability

Internationally, the reliability of fire sprinkler systems is quoted as being as low as 90% to 95%. Widely cited statistical research by Harry Marryatt is quoted as stating that sprinkler system reliability in Australia and New Zealand is around 99.5%, with the Fire Protection Association in New Zealand claiming even better reliability for New Zealand, of around 99.8%.

New Zealand's good record can be attributed to a number of factors including, monitoring of valves, direct connection to the Fire Service receiving equipment and the use of super-pressurised systems. In addition, Aon believes that New Zealand's record is enhanced by our third party inspectorate regime under which the design is peer reviewed by a Sprinkler System Certifier, and is certified after installation that it complies with the requirements of the installation standard.
