Global Fine Art Practice – Frequently Asked Questions

Global Fine Art Practice – Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the GFAP help me with preparations for my art prior to a renovation?

A: Yes. We can create protection plans for all aspects of your valuables- including moving and renovation.  With that plan in place, we will help you select from our thoroughly vetted network of vendors to handle crating, shipping, restoration, storage and installation.

Q: Are my valuables still insured while they are in storage?

A: This depends on your policy, the facility and what you sign.  The GFAP can advise on all matters of storage and we are happy to review your coverage questions.

Q: Why do I need a Valuable Articles Policy?  Isn’t my jewelry covered under my Homeowners Policy?

A: Many Homeowners Policies provide minimal coverage for collectibles and exclude perils basic to a Valuable Articles Policy – like mysterious disappearance.  A Valuable Articles Policy offers broad peril coverage and a loss is not subject to a deductible.

Q: What is the difference between a “scheduled” item and “blanket” coverage?

A: Scheduling an item means that the item and a value are specified on the Valuable Articles Policy. In the event of a total loss, the scheduled value can be recovered for the total amount listed on the policy- plus additional coverage for inflation.  A “blanket” policy provides an aggregate limit for a group of unspecified valuable items. This is particularly useful when items in a collection may not be valuable individually but are as a whole.

Q: How often should I have my valuables appraised?

A: This depends on the collecting category of the item and/or collection.  Generally we recommend obtaining appraisals every two to three years.

Q: I need coverage not only for my collection but for other physical assets as well.  Can you help?

A: Yes. APRM handles all aspects of high net worth personal insurance.  We can put you in touch with an Account Executive that will best fit your specific needs.
