Asia Mental Health Index Report
Insights from China, India, and the Philippines
The Asia Mental Health Index is a study conducted by Aon and TELUS Health to examine the mental health status of Asia’s working population. Its findings show that employees in Asia are under significant strain and have a higher risk of developing a mental health issue than employees in other regions. This is a concern for business leaders, as employee mental health issues can lead to lower productivity, rising insurance premiums, absenteeism, high employee turnover, and other impacts.

Yet, despite these efforts, the Mental Health Index Score in China is 60.6, which is lower than the Asia average of 62.4, indicating a higher level of mental health risk among employees in China, and a need for more effective workplace strategies to improve wellbeing, mental health and productivity.

India
In India, employee mental health issues are a growing challenge, with the Asia Mental Health Index revealing a score of 64.0 there, indicating better mental health and a lower risk of developing mental health issues compared to Asia’s average of 62.4. However, due to mental health stigma, large numbers of employees in India are likely battling with undiagnosed conditions, including depression and anxiety, which can significantly impact productivity and wellbeing. The report findings underscore the need for employers in India to adopt comprehensive mental health support programs that also reduce stigma through training and awareness programs and by fostering a more inclusive culture.
