By offering the same luxury and fun they are known for – coupled with robust public health and safety guidelines, cruise lines are drawing customers who are ready to explore the world again. It’s little wonder that both veterans and newbies to cruising are looking to book an upcoming sailing. In fact, according to data from the Cruise Lines International Association, nearly 74% of past cruisers and 58% of international travelers who have never cruised indicated they are planning a cruise in the next few years.
If you’re ready to sail away, here’s what to expect:
- Vaccinated passengers
- Policies can vary by cruise line. Only fully vaccinated adults can cruise on some lines, whereas others are allowing passengers to go without the vaccine if mask and testing protocols are implemented. Because rules vary depending on the cruise line, it’s important to understand the vaccine guidelines as regulations on booster vaccines continue to change.
- Heightened cleanliness
- During the pandemic, cruise lines have increased their commitment to cleanliness with more rigorous cleaning standards, new air filtration technology, enhanced onboard medical teams and even a dedicated public health officer in some cases. With daily cabin cleanings and communal spaces being sanitized multiple times per day, guests can expect their surroundings to meet CDC standards as part of their Vessel Sanitation Program recommendations, and extra medical staff to help keep passengers and crew safe.
- Expect a lower occupancy and social distancing
- Before guests set foot on the ship, passengers must stay distanced and be masked and tested for COVID. In addition to these precautions, cruise lines have reduced their capacity. Keeping these standards in place helps cruise-goers stay protected before they start enjoying their cruise.
The Aon Travel Takeaway? “While cruise lines are doing all they can to protect their guests, an extra layer of protection such as travel insurance can help,” said Beth Godlin, president of Aon Affinity Travel Practice. “Travel insurance is required for entry in some destinations, and it’s a great way to help protect your investment.”
