Taking Your Postponed Honeymoon? Tips Travelers Need to Know

Sep 28, 2021 | AON

Couples who rearranged their wedding plans during the early months of the pandemic are ready to pick up where they left off. Whether they had a smaller than anticipated wedding and first moon – a short trip after the wedding – or moved their date entirely, newlyweds are ready to travel. Almost 60% of engaged couples are planning a honeymoon in 2021, with 58% feeling comfortable going abroad.

According to Beth Godlin, president of the Aon Affinity Travel Practice, “Couples have been waiting to celebrate the start of their marriage with the perfect honeymoon, and there are things they should consider to make sure it lives up to their expectations.”

If you’re planning on taking a honeymoon, here are our travel tips:

  • Plan Early – Couples should plan their travel budget and start thinking about their honeymoon as soon as they begin wedding planning. This not only includes what type of trip, like a cruise, all-inclusive resort or international travel, but also what logistics or regulations need to be considered before taking the vacation. For example, because of the pandemic a growing list of countries have new visitor requirements, like presenting proof of travel insurance to enter.
  • Ask the Experts – Many newlyweds are turning to travel advisors to help plan their getaways to ensure honeymoons go off without a hitch as the rules of travel continue to evolve Travel agents can help honeymooners stay within their travel budget and get the most out of their journey. When it comes to handling forms and regulations, or organizing an itinerary, travel agents can help get everything squared away. Honeymooners can also count on travel agents to be knowledgeable when it comes to unique destinations.
  • Stay Protected – Taking a trip means there may be some risk involved, and couples who postponed their nuptials due to the pandemic know the value of safeguarding their investment. Having a travel insurance plan can help protect newlyweds in the event of severe weather, health issues or other situations that might interrupt their honeymoon plans.

The Aon Travel Takeaway? Godlin says: “Newlyweds just need a bit of preparation and flexibility when going on their honeymoons, and luckily there are wonderful resources to help. With the right planning and protection, couples can focus on their anticipated getaway.”
